Little Detroit Lake has officially frozen over! The picture above is from the west shoreline by the bowling alley. It is a look but don’t touch situation right now, so please don’t attempt to walk on the ice and keep children and pets a healthy distance from shoreline. For those anxiously waiting to go fishing, the good news is the cold weather over the next few days will accelerate the ice building process. It’s still too early to tell when the ice will be safe for fishing, so I will be sure to cover this topic again next week. I will say that the forecast looks promising… So, there is reason to celebrate with your fishing buddies over the extended Holiday weekend–just don’t go fishing! 😃 I always refer to the DNR ice thickness guidelines to guide my decision making. While it is true that ice is never 100% safe, those guidelines are your best resource available to help anglers understand ice safety. We’ll dive into that and more next week. Thanks for reading, stay safe, and Happy Holidays!
