Detroit Lakes Fishing Report (6/3/25)

These eyes were caught and netted at the same time!! We had a bit of a tangled mess in the end, but we didn't care!!

Lots to report–here we go!  The bite has been above average but the warming water will light a fire beneath all species for the next few weeks.  Look for largemouth bass near shallow vegetation, but also in 8’-12’ where longer cabbage weeds grow.  We've been pitching minnows and plastics in those depths and we’ve caught not only bass, but walleye.  While we’re finding walleyes in 8’-12’, they are a bit spread right now and can be found as deep as 20”.  Jigs, rigs, bobbers, and spinners tipped with minnows and leeches are all producing fish.  Sunfish are staging near shallow spawning areas (near shallow structure, such as bullrush/pin reeds) and they are aggressive.  We’ve had luck on a bobber and leech combo, but crawlers and plastics will work, too.  Good luck out there and don’t forget to apply sunscreen when on the water–your future self will thank you!
