If you had a tough opener, you were not alone-I spoke with the DNR, who had been out on various lakes on Saturday, and they reported more sunshine than fish caught! While we were fortunate to catch some fish on our boat, we only pulled in a few walleye. The walleye bite has already picked up since then and jig fishing with shiners or plastics near weed lines in 7’-9’ has been the best bet. Bass are aggressive and fun to catch right now in very shallow water (2’-3’) near emerging reeds, and a senko on a Texas rig will get them in the boat. We also caught a few bass in 8’ on shiners. Crappies are hanging out in shallow water, and you’ll find them wherever you see lily pads flirting with the surface. If you venture out between 9’-15’ right now, you will find an abundance of pike willing to bite on almost anything! FYI- high school fishing begins tonight on Lake Sallie, so the access will be packed. Good luck fishing this week!
