Detroit Lakes Fishing Report: Expanded Edition (6/18/25)

Water temperatures have stalled in the lower 60s on many lakes, due to rain and cool weather the past week.  The unpredictable weather has influenced the fishing—some days are good, some days are tough.  Bass and pike are the  best bet right now, if you are purely looking for action.  Largemouth and smallmouth bass are still hanging out in the weeds and at the edge of the weedlines, in 7’-9’—you may snag a few nice crappie in that range too.  Pike can be found deeper, in 10-12’, as well as 20' (that's where the big girls hang out).

‘Eyes are often still visible in 8-10’ but if they scatter, it’s time to break out a bobber and leech/minnow combo and cast at them from a distance. To that—if you couldn’t find leeches at your local bait store the past few days, most have a new supply so don’t hesitate to get while the gettin’s good.  We’ve also caught walleye in 14’-20’ recently, so be ready to do a little searching.

Muskies are visible right now on Pelican in 8'-10', and they are surprisingly abundant. We saw 4 of them on our trip yesterday and 3 were over 50". You can also find them hanging out in open water right now, but you will have to do a lot of searching using forward facing sonar or side imaging.

Thanks for reading, and good luck!
