Detroit Lakes Fishing Report (4/29/25)

If you haven’t been on the water yet this Spring, consider this your call to action–get out there before you miss some of the best panfishing of the year! The key factors are water temperature, daylight, and the spawning season. Panfish become more active when the days get longer and water temperatures rise. While the rain yesterday cooled lakes down a bit, surface water in shallow bays is nearing 60° and this has triggered a feeding frenzy that will burn hot for a short period of time. Look to those shallow bays (from 2’-5’) with emerging weeds to find these feeding fish. As I mentioned last week, every rod in my boat has a bobber dangling above a small plastic on a jig. I recommend trying that same set up. Details matter, too. 4 lb. line on a 500-1000 size reel, rigged to a light or ultra light action rod will catch the most fish. Thanks for reading this week’s report, and good luck fishing!
