We are getting close to that sketchy time of the ice fishing season where anglers must ask themselves, is the juice worth the squeeze?! Expect sloppy afternoon ice conditions from now on. Overnight temperatures are still dipping low enough to refreeze small pools of melted ice overnight, and this should be true for the next 10 days or so. After next weekend, the answer to that question will likely be “no, the juice isn’t worth the squeeze”. I’ll talk more about ice safety next week. For now, patterns are holding and big panfish continue to roam in and out of the weedlines. You’ll find plenty of big bass in there, too–you’ll know when you get one on the line!! Wax worms are best for panfish right now, and any minnow will increase your chances of catching a bass. To the harcore anglers still pounding the ice, good luck and stay safe!
