The public docks have been pulled out of area lakes, which marks a pivotal moment of the year. I have finally put my boat away for the year, but not before catching limits of walleye this past weekend! We found them in 18’-22’, and when I spoke to Tom Huynh recently, he told me he is finding big solo walleyes in up to 25'. While we are finding them deep, 'eyes will also be found shallower for the remainder of the season. In other words, they are everywhere! The only thing you need to bring with you are minnows (and plastics) in a variety of sizes. Jig them or rig them and you’ll catch fish. In my experience fishing for bass, black and blue plastics on a jig or Texas rig catch more bucketmouths than any color late into the Fall so, to all you bass fisherman, consider throwing those hues in the mix with your pumpkins and red flakes for the remainder of the open water season. Finally, big sucker minnows beneath big bobbers will be your best bet for trophy Muskies the rest of the season–troll them slow, but also don’t be afraid to stop in high probability locations and let the sucker swim around for a bit. Thanks for reading and good luck to those still fishing!
