Detroit Lakes Fishing and Ice Report (3/10/26)

The ice is still holding strong on many area lakes, with 25”-30” of ice remaining.  The top few inches are honeycombed/cloudy which means there has been some deterioration due to warm weather.  That can turn to slush on warm days too, so I’d wear tall insulated muck boots or any waterproof boots, just in case!  330 Maniac Scott Mackner reported catching crappies and bluegill consistently this past week.  There has been a transition to shallower water, for the most part so target those weeds and weedlines in 9’-10’.  The added bonus of fishing shallower is you’ll likely catch bigger fish. Wax worms have been the ticket, and plastics will also produce fish–less total, but bigger in size.

Please practice caution for the remainder of the year.  While the ice is still thick, the shorelines will be the first to melt.  Cold weather coming up will help extend the season, so get on out there.  Need a guide? Call me or Scott any time! Thanks for reading and good luck fishing!

It's that time of year. My mind is on open water! Vexus just delivered the new Baxstar boat to J & K Marine and it's a beauty! This year I am running a Vexus DVX20S fiberglass powered by a 300 hp Mercury ProXS, and equipped with two Garmin LiveScopes, 66" of HD fish finder screens, and two Minn Kota Raptor shallow water anchors. Check it out the pics below. I can't wait to get it rigged up. It will be is a fishing machine!

My open water fishing calendar is available online. Let's go fishing! Learn more and book your trip by clicking/tapping the Open Water page in the menu above. Or, call me at 701-261-3703 to put together a trip you won't forget!
