Detroit Lake Fishing Report (1/15/25)

Weather and Ice

Hold on, my keyboard is frozen…there we go. Ha ha! 🤣  Really though, be careful outdoors everyone, this cold weather is no joke!  It looks like we will have a very brief respite from the frigid temperatures the next few days before they plunge even lower this weekend. As expected, the ice is building like crazy thanks to the cold (Little DL has close to 18” in many spots).

Fishing Report

As for the fishing, all of you walleye anglers have another week or two before the bite will get tough for the rest of the season.  Focus your efforts on sharp breaks near flats and/or weeds to give yourself the best chance at a walleye dinner!  Fatheads, rainbows, and small suckers are all good choices on a deadstick or rattle reel.  Throw a buckshot or flutter spoon tipped with a minnow head on your 2nd rod to double your odds–seriously.  Anglers that put the effort into running two lines outperform those who take it easy every time.  Speaking of putting in effort, get up early or fish late for crappies and eyes.  I promise it will pay off. As for crappies, search near the weeds, or look for suspended crappies near deep holes in any given lake. Good luck fishing and stay safe in the cold!
