Detroit Lakes Fishing Report: Ice Fishing Prep Edition, Part 1 (11/18/25)

ree

If you’re still out fishing, look for walleyes (and other species) where you found them in the spring - often shallow, near first breaklines by shore.  Just remember to stay safe out there!

Now is the time of year to assess the ice fishing gear you packed away last spring, to prepare for the upcoming hardwater season.  Worn out auger blades, old line, and jigs with chipped paint are common items I replace each year.  It’s also a great time of year to update the software on your electronics.  This has become even more critical with the proliferation of more complicated and often finicky forward facing sonar equipment.  It’s easy to search for updates online, but if you have trouble feel free to send me an email.  Next week we’ll talk more about the wide array of electronics available to the modern ice angler.  With the early Black Friday deals going on, now is the time to get a deal!

For now, check out www.scheels.com for some great deals on Garmin fish finders and livescopes, the prices are lowest I've seen in years!
