With my boat in the shop since last week, I reached out to the 330 Maniac, Scott Mackner to get the lowdown on what he’s been seeing this week. He’s been finding schools of walleye on deep points in 16’-20’, and there have been nice smallies in the mix too, on lakes that hold them. If you can find leeches anywhere, they are still working. Otherwise, he’s had luck on minnows. If you really get into ‘em, pull out those plastics you’ve been waiting to try–you find out if they work pretty quickly! Scott is one of the best lindy riggers in the area and that’s what he’s been using most often to boat fish. Before my boat went into the shop, we were catching bluegills at the same depth range that Scott mentioned–and even a little deeper. I like to downsize to a ¼ crawler that barely hangs off the hook to convert nibbles into a full livewell. Thanks for reading and good luck fishing this week!
I want to thank Scott Mackner once more for his help with the report this week, and for helping me cover my trips while my boat is out of service. It's nice to know I am putting my customers in good hands! My boat will be back and running by the end of this week so I'll be back with another extended edition of this report next Tuesday.
