Detroit Lakes Fishing Report (6/23/25) Expanded Edition

Updated: Jun 27

You will always find a little but more here in my expanded report. :-) Thanks for reading!

We are in the middle of an incredible panfish bite right now!  If you want action, find a weedline in 8-14’ and toss a small, light jig and plastic combo and let it fall…  You’ll have a crappie on the line in no time, and you’ll hook into some nice sunfish too. If that isn't your style, trying trolling the same jig, in the same depth.  If you’re not comfortable with plastics for panfish during the summer, now is the time to test the waters and gain confidence with them.  Soon you’ll find a go to option that doesn’t die or make a mess!

Walleyes are still moody some days. When this happens, cast from a distance with a bobber, rig or jig. Try all 3 live bait options.  Most are in 8’-16’.  As the water continues to warm, the bite will get better and better.  If bucketmouths are stumping you shallow, start spending some time on the other side of the weedline–just stay in the weeds! I love using tubes this time of year, but a jig a minnow usually outperforms plastics.  Lastly, small pike are biting from 9'-12' but you can find bigger fish a few feet deeper.

Thanks for reading this week’s report.  Good luck fishing and stay safe!
