Detroit Lakes Fishing Report (10/21/25)

Break out that ice fishing jacket and hit the water–you will be rewarded! It doesn’t matter what species you want to target, they are all feeding like crazy on medium to large minnows.  Walleyes are still found at various depths right now.  I recommend searching and fishing for them near sharp breaklines near shore.  You can’t go wrong casting jigs and rigs (including slip bobbers) at shallow weedlines, but you may find them as deep as 30’ and everywhere in between.  If you have forward facing sonar, pay attention to how the fish react to your bait.  These interactions should inform your decision making process.  If you see them snubbing the jig and minnow combo that worked yesterday, adapt quickly and give them another option such as a Lindy rig or slip bobber that allows the minnows to do the work for you.  Good luck to you diehards–I hope you catch the trophy fish you’re looking for!
