The minnow bite continues to pick up steam in the Detroit Lakes area, but it isn’t the only live bait catching fish right now. Leeches and crawlers continue to catch fish, too. We’re catching ‘eyes in 22’-25’ but you can find them anywhere from 20’-30’ on Pelican, Detroit, and Big Cormorant, to name a few lakes. As reported many times this Summer, the number one producing presentation on my boat has been a drop shot rig. If you are not familiar, I highly recommend you try it out. Bottom bouncers and spinners plus live bait (Lindy) rigs have been producing a lot of fish too. The smallmouth bass and bluegill bite has been incredible and they have been found in the same depths as walleyes. The drop shot tipped with a leech is your best friend for bluegills and bass, too. If you prefer a less involved technique, rig up a slip bobber and take it easy. Thanks for reading and good luck fishing!
